Salad on a Stick, Green Foods

Concentrating on her task.

This week we are making and eating a lot of green foods. One of our favorite and go-to salads is Salad on a Stick. The girls love eating food on a stick and Audrey loves making them. We purchase stick-friendly foods and then prepare a nice dip of creamy dressing mixed with yogurt (usually ranch).

This was the way I was able to get Audrey to try lettuce for the first time. Since I had such success I decided to stick with it.

Audrey's Tasks:
  1. Help chop vegetables
  2. Place vegetables on stick
  3. Assist with mixing dip
Mom's Tasks:
  1. Gather ingredients
  2. Assist Audrey
A simple trick to keep little ones from poking their hands is to place the vegetable on a cutting board and stab the stick into it. Once it is on the stick your helper can move it down the stick.

Select vegetables your family enjoys that are soft enough to go on a stick. A few of our favorites:
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Cucumbers
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Zucchini
  • Sweet peppers
  • Mushrooms
  • Snap Peas
