Local Edition, City Market

Eenie, meenie, miney, moe.
The girls and I took a short trip to the City Market in Kansas City recently. It was amazing! This year round market brings hundreds of local vendors in the summer with so much variety in produce it is phenomenal. On the day of our visit the market was so crowded we had trouble making our way through the covered aisles. Audrey spotted a fruit vendor selling blueberries and nectarines. She could not resist. I also picked up some purple potatoes and a small watermelon. We could have spent many hours at that market.

Watching performers.

Playing with the displays.

You are what you eat!

A little train ride.

As you can see from the pictures there are many fun activities in addition to the food. We spent several hours there and could have stayed longer if we had the energy. Plan to arrive early and enjoy the food, sights, and activities. There are restaurants as well as food truck vendors to supply your every food desire. SNAP dollars are matched up to $20 so your budget goes further buying local foods. More on this soon.

We stopped to talk to the nice people from the Missouri Extension office and they shared an amazing watermelon smoothie recipe that Audrey could not get enough of. They were also kind enough to photograph us in front of their tiger even though Mo was wearing her Jayhawk dress. If you are not from the area you should read up about the Lawrence Massacre on August 21, 1863 by William Quantrill to see why this is amusing.
