No really, we made Split Pea Soup today. I realize that it is one of the hottest days of the year and soup seems an unlikely meal, however, we made it in the slow cooker! It was less of a recipe and more of a dump of leftovers and odds and ends. Good soups are like that. It was not the first pick of the toddlers in the house but they did enjoy dipping their grilled cheese sandwiches in and I am certain a few healthy ingredients snuck into their tummies.

We had some leftover chicken broth, tomato juice, celery, carrots, and a little garlic and onion got thrown in at the last minute. Add salt, pepper and some herbs and it was an amazing meal. The girls helped puree the soup after it was cooked and even ate a little. I was glad they were not too interested because that meant more for me! The only thing missing from the soup was a little bacon. Next time...
