January 19 Homemade Butter

One of the easiest tricks to do in the kitchen with children is turning cream into butter. Using a small container with a small amount of cream the task is very doable with small children. They love to pour in cream and find butter when they open the lid. We usually use a small baby food jar leftover from Maurene's puree period. Place heavy cream inside and shake. It takes about ten minutes so we like to take turns, usually while dancing. You can tell your butter is ready when it starts feeling like something is hitting the sides of the container. Pour off the liquid and store the butter in a cool place. We like to have ours on fresh bread machine bread with homemade strawberry freezer jam.
