Tip of the Day August 2

Baking is a wonderful and easy way to include children in the kitchen. They love the process and there are so many things they can do. Audrey started by pouring pre-measured containers of ingredients into a bowl and mixing them. Now she can help measure, crack eggs, and place the batter in cups or on baking sheets. It is so much fun. She also loves to lick the spatula when we are done (as long as there is no raw egg in the batter) and will get out a spatula if I have not. This month we are going to do some from scratch baking and some from mixes. I want to show how fun and easy it can be, regardless of your time availability.

Baking can be a little on the unhealthy side if you do not pick your ingredients well. Audrey and I like to make our special treats with a little healthy goodness inside. We make Carrot Cake Cookies from the Sesame Street Yummy Cookies Book because they have carrots and raisins to make our treats a little better for us.

What are your favorite healthier treats?
