Tip of the Day August 1

August will be all about baking. Audrey and I do a lot of it and baking is easy to do with young children. You do not need any special tools and the outcome is almost sure to be consumed. While Audrey's grandparents where here she got to bake with her Danya (grandma) and she loved it. They made a simple peach shortcake using a recipe from the Bisquick box. The result was amazing. If you make your own baking mix I will include the recipe for you to make:
  • 2 1/3 baking mix
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
Combine mix, milk, sugar, and butter until a soft dough forms. Drop by 6 spoonfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450°F for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
Top with whatever fruit you would like. The recipe calls for strawberries but we had peaches. Blend fruit with a little sugar and let it set for an hour or so.

Audrey's Tasks:
  1. Help measure and add ingredients
  2. Mix
  3. Help place shortcakes on the baking sheet
  4. Ask a lot of questions about the batter
Grandma's Tasks:
  1. Gather ingredients
  2. Help Audrey
  3. Place shortcakes in the oven.
  4. Peel and cut peaches
Audrey could have helped with the fruit but she was napping. It would also have been a very messy task. You are invited to have your little one help cut the fruit as well if time allows. I think we are going to make this again soon as Audrey's daddy brought home a large box of baking mix and I do not have any other uses for it.
