Cocktail Sticks

Thanks to some great ideas from friends we are trying out a new lunch menu. I had a package of cocktail toothpicks left over from my childless years when I used to have the time, energy, and inclination to entertain. These colorful picks have been taking up space on my shelf for years. Today Audrey and I put the to good use with a new lunch called Toothpick Tuesdays! She thinks the idea is great and even helped to cut up some items for today:

She kept repeating her 'toothpick Tuesday' mantra while she cut and helped me assemble the food. Here is the result (I did about half the toothpicks this morning and had Audrey help with the rest at lunch):

The outcome was mixed. She ate all of the hot dog; most of the cheese; and one tomato slipped into her mouth for several minutes. It reappeared later but she did try. Next time I am going to plan for a better selection of food. Any ideas? I tried to buy a cucumber but they were out at the store I stopped in this morning.

  1. That's cute! I have "kiddie kabobs" ideas I pulled from a magazine, might work for this. I'll see if I can find them for you. Off the top of my head; cooked chicken chunks, cooked sliced carrots, small broccoli florets, marshmallows, banana...

  2. This is a FANTASTIC idea! I use toothpick for MTM.. never really thought of a Toothpick Tuesday! Why not?

  3. What kind of knife is it that she is using?

  4. It is by a company called Curious Chef. They are great and work pretty well. She can't hurt herself so she can practice before using the real thing. It is hard for Audrey to cut anything very hard but I can use them to cut carrots and all kinds of foods. She just does not have the strength and patience to get them to cut. They work great on bananas, hot dogs, bread.

Audrey wants to hear from you!
