Sand Art Brownies


This idea comes from Taste of Home. It was fairly easy to complete but we did have a little trouble getting all of the ingredients in the quart size jar. We are also going to look for a canning funnel to help get everything in without spilling.
Sand Art Brownie Mix
1 cup plus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup baking cocoa
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup white or vanilla chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans

In a small bowl mix flour and salt. In a quart jar layer flour mixture, brown sugar, sugar, cocoa, chips and pecans. Cover and store in a cool dry place for up to 6 months. Yield 1 batch.

To make brownies:

3 eggs
2/3 cup canola oil
1 tsp vanilla extract

In a large bowl whisk eggs, oil, and vanilla. Add brownie mix, stir until blended. Spread into a greased 9-inch square baking dish. bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
